2022 NFL season, Week 1: Major injuries, news from Sunday's game

Injuries and news we monitor in the league this week on Sunday, Week 1:

      Detroit Lions Safety Tracy Walker in the third quarter against The Eagles were ejected for two personal fouls in the same game after punching and picking up.

Injuried

  • Baltimore Ravens tackle Jawan James tore Achilles in game against Jets, head coach John Ha Bo told reporters after the game. James was sent off in the second quarter with an ankle injury. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ti Higgins suffered a concussion and was ruled out of the game against the Steelers.
      Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was injured in Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers and his thrower needed surgery, owner Jay Lee Jones told reporters. Prescott is expected to miss several weeks. Offensive lineman Conor McGovern (ankle) and safety Jaylen Coles (knee) also left the game and did not return.

    Green Bay Packers Team guard Jon Runyan Jr. suffered a concussion against the Vikings. Cornerback Keisean Nixon (shoulder), linebacker Quay Walker (shoulder) and linebacker Krys Barnes (ankle) were also injured.

  • Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Bartke briefly dropped out of the game against Arizona. Ankle injury. Safety Justin Reid handled the kick for the Chiefs and added a point before Butker returned. Cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring) is ruled out. Wide receiver Justin Watson was ruled out with a chest injury. Las Vegas Raiders Cornerback Anthony Afrett (thumb), safety Trayvon Morig (hip), running back Bran Den Bolden (hamstring), wide receiver DJ Turner (ankle) and linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle) all left the game with the Chargers and did not return.
  • Los Angeles Chargers Wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring) was ruled out for the Raiders.
  • Miami Dolphins Right tackle Austin Jackson suffered an ankle injury against the Patriots. Tight end Seitan Carter was ruled out with a head injury. Minnesota Vikings Cornerback Andrew Booth didn’t return with a limb injury against the Packers. New England Patriots Quarterback Mike Jones suffered a back injury against the Dolphins. According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelisero, Jones received a negative X-ray after the game and he will undergo further evaluation. Jones did not speak to the media after the game. Defensive back Adrian Phillips (ribs) is excluded. New York Giants wide receiver Wandell Robinson suffered a knee injury against the Titans and did not return.
      Philadelphia Eagles Defensive end Derek Barnett did not return from a knee injury against Detroit.
  • Pittsburgh Steel Man
  • Pass rusher TJ Watt suffered a chest injury in the second half and Najee Harris suffered a foot injury to the Bengals. According to NFL Network’s Mike Judy, Watt is concerned about a torn pectoral muscle. Giardi later reported that Harris’ injury wasn’t considered a big deal. Cornerback Liev Wallace (ankle) and center Mason Cole (ankle) were also injured.

  • San Francisco 49ers Running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) was ruled out of the Bears game. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (hamstring) and offensive tackle Donovan Smith (elbow) are ruled out against the Cowboys in the team’s game.
  • Tennessee Titans Linebacker Ola Adenei suffered a shoulder injury against the Giants and did not return.
  • Commander Washington Defensive lineman Fedarian Mattis was taken to the locker room with a knee injury against Jacksonville. He was excluded. Offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer suffered a knee injury.
