2022 Tour Championship odds, venue: Surprising FedEx Cup playoff picks from models from 8 majors

The main season of golf begins each year in Augusta, Georgia, and Peach State is also where the PGA Tour season ends. Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club will host the 2022 Tour Championship, which begins Thursday and will be crowned FedEx Cup champion. The top 30 FedExCup points assemble in Atlanta for a no-knockout round, with staggered points ensuring whoever wins the 2022 Tour Championship will also win the FedExCup.

World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler currently leads the FedExCup standings and is also a 12-5 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2022 Tour Championship odds candidate. Defending FedExCup champion Patrick Cantley repeats with a 4-1 run, while other favorites include Zand Schauffele (15-2), Rory McIlroy (9-1) and Will Zara Torres (10-1). Before you lock in your 2022 Tour Championship picks, be sure to check out PGA Tour predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven golf models.

SportsLine’s exclusive model, built by DFS Pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model’s best bet since the reboot has risen by more than $9,500, winning game after game.

McClure’s model includes JT Poston’s best bet to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit +5500, and McClure’s best bet returned nearly $1,100 in the entire tournament. At the 2022 Masters, McClure was modeled after Scottie Scheffler’s first career major victory before the weekend.

Also, McClure’s best bets include a straight win for Collin Morikawa at the 2021 Open, even though he’s listed as a huge 40-1 long shot. The scene of Jon Rahm (10-1) winning his first career major at the 2021 U.S. Open is also modeled. Going into the weekend, Ram was two shots behind the lead, but the model still thought he was the winner.

The same model also locked up as many as 8 Grand Slams heading into the weekend. Those who followed it saw huge returns.

The 2022 Tour Championship is now locked and SportsLine has simulated the race 10,000 times with surprising results. Head over to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2022 Tour Championship predictions

One big surprise the model calls for at the 2022 Tour Championship: McIlroy, 21 PGA The Tour winner and one of the most popular players stumbled this week and didn’t even make the top five. With the 2022 Tour Championship victory, McIlroy will become the first golfer to win the FedEx Cup three times.

The 33-year-old continues to hit the tee box, averaging 320.4 points per tee this season, the second-best on tour. McIlroy’s drive distance also puts him in the top five for birdie average (4.45), scoring average (68.728) and batting average (0.788).

However, McIlroy is only 57.87 percent off the pitch this season, 133rd on the tour. Additionally, McIlroy had trouble putting putts all season, ranking 78th in total putts (191.9), 86th in single-putt percentage (39.78%) and 147th in three-putt avoidance (3.17%). He’s not a good candidate to win it all, and has far more value in the 2022 Tour Championship.

Another surprise: Lin Chengcai, 25-1 from long range, is strong in the title. I’ve had two runners-up in the last four games, all four have him Into the top 15. This year, I had 8 top 10s, beaten by only 6 other golfers.

I have no real holes in his game as he ranks in the top nine in the categories of hits earned on the tour: driver (.659), around the green (.428 ) and Total Score (.659) 1.655). He and Matthew Fitzpatrick are the only golfers who can claim to rank well in all of these metrics. Even if I do hit a wayward shot on the green, he usually recovers as he has the fourth-best scramble rate on the tour (66.29 percent). I’ll start the 2022 Tour Championship at 4 under, but his game and balance will need to rise above those before him on the leaderboard. See who else can pick here.
