2022 US Open results: Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek win US Open Men's, Women's Opens

The 2022 U.S. Open had a strong run in both the men’s and women’s divisions, and the event has now been crowned champion. No. 1 seed Iga Świątek defeated No. 5 seed Ons Jabeur in Saturday’s women’s final. No. 3 Carlos Alcalás defeated No. 5 seed Caspar Ruud in Sunday’s men’s final.

Alcaraz is now the youngest world No. 1 ever in the men’s division at just 19 years old. It was his first Grand Slam title. Świątek is already world No. 1 and has now won three Grand Slam titles.

Serena Williams’ Last Dance is the big story at the start of the game. Williams was eventually eliminated by Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round, but she knocked out No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit of the tournament in the second round. Williams’ win over Kontaveit set the tone for a game full of upsets. Only two top five seeds remain in the men’s and women’s divisions.

There were two big upsets in the men’s group in the fourth round. No. 1 seed Daniel Medvedev was eliminated in four sets by No. 23 seed Nick Kyrgios, while No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal was beaten by No. 22 seed Francis Tiafoe. Tiafoe is the only American to remain in the field. He will play a brilliant semi-final against 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcalás. Casper Ruud faces Karen Khachanov in the other semi-final.

The women’s team defeated No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek. Swiatek is a two-time French Open champion after defeating Coco Gauff in the final earlier this year. Swiatek eliminated American Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals. Three of the women’s top six seeds are still alive in the semifinals.
