The first round of the 2022 WNBA playoffs ended in less dramatic fashion on Wednesday night as the Connecticut Suns completely shut down Dallas United on their way to a 73-58 win Offense in the decisive third game. With the win, the Suns reach their fourth straight semifinal, where they will face defending champions Chicago Sky. In the other semifinal, the No. 1 seed Las Vegas Aces will face the Seattle Storm . Those teams each swept their first round.
Another new playoff format debuted this year as the league eliminated first- and second-round byes in favor of a standard three-round bracket format. The first round will be best of three, while the semi-finals and final will be best of five. The semifinals and finals will be played in a standard 2-2-1 format, with higher seeded teams hosting Games 1, 2 and 5 if necessary, and lower seeded teams hosting games 3 and 5 as necessary Game 4.
