The art is back and the creativity of the stylists is alive again. “For a long time, people only focused on the hair, but we’re starting to see styling come back again,” says Luke Hersheson. “The question now is more about how to wear your hair up without feeling too dated…that’s why really sleek, gel-like updos are such a big trend right now.” Whether it’s top knots, ballet buns and Croydon face-lifting ponytails, or gel-kissed curls and more ornate architectural shapes—the latter of which was recently featured on Lily James at the British Fashion Awards—it’s time to really go for it with your updo.
Hersheson Tips on how to make the look work for you? “Concentrate on getting the sides of your hair in line with your cheekbones,” he says. “Generally, this style is easier to do when your hair is damper because it’s more malleable—slather on Almost Everything Cream for more hold.” For extra detail, get creative too.
