With fall in full swing and winter (and, whisper it , Christmas) beckons, and now is a great time to consider your end-of-year look. There’s nothing more impactful or transformative than a new hairstyle, whether you’ve got a big chop or simply braided your hair in a different way. Whatever your aesthetic, there are plenty of options out there, and if the beginning of the year (defined by short hair) is anything to go by, the end of the year will be equally experimental.
General mood? You might have guessed it, but when it comes to hair, we draw inspiration from the past, mostly ’21s, when bangs, texture and blowouts are almost as popular as they are now. We’ve also ditched “his” and “hers” cuts for styles that blur the lines and put gender fluidity at the forefront of hairstyling. In the end, we opted for gloss, and a lot – think healthy, shiny hair where light bounces back.
below, Vogue spoke with some of the world’s top hairstylists to find out what they think will be in fashion this fall.
What does bob king George Northwood think about fall hairstyles? “I’m cutting those short haircuts in a more ‘playboy’ style. The front is slightly shorter,” he says. “It’s not for everyone, it’s not the prettiest shape, but it’s definitely more of what I’m doing.”

The modern Rachel hairstyle was all over the place last summer, and it’s not going away. According to Syd Hayes, the latest version of this style is “Sachel”. “This is when a shag haircut meets Rachel!” he said. “If you’ve been growing shag, this is the perfect time to rock a modern Rachel—ask your stylist to keep the shape around your face a little longer, but keep sliced layers.” Great for those with naturally straight hair Or someone with slightly curly hair, his number one tip is to keep things really choppy.
