Congratulations to Lizzo, who won Record of the Year for her hit single “About Damn Time” and was nominated in five categories at last night’s star-studded Grammy Awards. For such an important occasion, the superstar needed some styling. With the help of legendary stylist Patti Wilson, she really went all out , choosing a dramatic silhouette that was more luxurious and fabulous than the next one. “The inspiration really came from Lizzo, who felt like she wanted to look gorgeous in the evening,” Wilson told Vogue. “It’s a big night for her and she wants all of her looks to really reflect that; regal, luxurious, important and really represent who she is.”
Lizzo and Wilson look to Dolce & Gabbana to bring their vision to life. Wilson says Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are the perfect creative partnership. “The inspiration we drew from it, and the feelings we wanted to evoke, had a natural connection to Dolce & Gabbana from the beginning,” says Wilson. “The luxury, the attention to detail, the exclusivity of the fabrics and materials, and the one-of-a-kind pieces—all of these remind me of Dolce & Gabbana. It felt like the perfect collaboration for Lizzo’s big Grammy night.”
Lizzo’s big fashion night started wearing an orange silk empress fully embroidered with silk flowers Opera coats walk the red carpet. She wore it over a silk bodice gown trimmed with Swarovski crystal mesh for added shape. “The bright, vibrant colors of a red-carpet look felt very special and suited Lizzo the sparkly star,” says Wilson. Once inside, Lizzo changed into a custom silver lamé pleated dress with sculptural shoulder sleeves to accept her record of the year award.

The singer performed her songs “About Damn Time” and “Special” in a custom black satin corset dress with voluminous sleeves and embellished with Swarovski crystal bodice. “It embodies confidence, sexiness and strength,” Wilson said. All of her backup dancers also wore complementary black and gold suits by Dolce & Gabbana.
Fashion spectacle like this is something to look forward to from Lizzo, who always brings her fashion A-to any Hollywood event she attends. That’s what makes her a dream client for Wilson. “Most of fashion is about having fun and being inspired and motivating others,” says Wilson. “I think Lizzo has always been that. That’s why people really admire her as a style icon.”
