Oscar winners Alan Arkin and Kathy Bates, and Teyana Taylor join Casey Affleck in the indie heist thriller The Smack.
The trio joins a growing cast that already includes Marisa Tomei , Isabelle May and Yul Vazquez.
David M. Rosenthal, Director Thriller Perfect Man 2020 and a remake of Jacob’s Ladder , which is at the helm of the feature, which begins filming later this fall in Los Angeles.
Rosenthal and Keith Kjarval wrote the screenplay adaptation of Richard Lange’s novel. Kjarval runs the prolific indie banner Unified Pictures, and he also produces with Sam Rockwell, Play Hooky’s Mark Berger (Of Mice and Men) and Sugar Rush Picture of Andrea Baco ( Tin Soldier
).
Smack tells the story of a con man (Affleck) who meets an upstart con man, played by Tyler. After getting a tip from a clever con artist (Akin), the two of them head to Los Angeles to pull off the biggest scam of their lives…but they know they’re not the only ones looking for money, including his conspirators List ambitious predecessor (Tomei). As the scam unfolds, the man can’t figure out if he and the woman are really in love, or if they’re set up for the eventual shenanigans.
Ben Ruffman, Tom Lasally and Will Rowbotham of 3 Arts Entertainment, Doug Grozelle and Shane David Goenfield are executive producers.
“When I did A Single Shot with David and Keith, it was an extraordinary experience, because David has a keen artistic eye as a filmmaker, and Keith as a producer. Bringing this mighty actor company together feels like an old school, 70 the way the film is made, and Mark and I are thrilled to be a part of this team,” Rockwell said in a statement.

Ah Jin is a veteran who won an Oscar for his performance in Miss Sunshine 2020 Best Supporting Actor, and for Argo , and three other times. He recently worked with Michael Douglas on HBO’s series The Kominsky Method
. He is represented by CAA, Lasher Group and Felker Toczek.
Stephen King’s Oscar-winning adaptation of Bates for his performance in , Misery , most recently in 2020 for Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell . She next appears with Rachel McAdams in Are You With God? It’s me, Margaret , coming out . Bates was replaced by CAA.
Singer-turned-actress Taylor appears with Eddie Murphy in Upcoming 2 America , is currently filming a remake with Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls White Men Can’t Jump 2020. She is represented by WME.
