Canadian director Atom Egoyan will make the Toronto Film Festival world premiere of his latest film Seven Veils , sponsored by
Amanda Seyfried stars as a tortured opera director.
Seyfried re-teams with her Chloe The subject of an opera directed by Egoyan Drama, in which she plays Jeanine, a theater director who re-enacts her former mentor’s most famous work, adapted from the opera Salome from the composition Richard Strauss, based on Oscar Wilde’s play. Years later, Jeanne re-enters the world of opera, haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, while her repressed traumas affect the present.
Rebecca Lydiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O’Brien and Vanessa Antoine also star in Seven Veils Filmed in and around Toronto earlier this year. If the WGA and SAG-AFTRA ongoing strikes continue into the fall, American actors will be banned from performing in places like Venice and A big festival like Toronto.
Seven Veils as Canadian-funded indie film will test TIFF’s ability to make hits Premiere this year. The independent film was filmed under the jurisdiction of ACTRA, the Screen Actors Guild of Canada, which has a longstanding association with SAG-AFTRA. That will allow Egoyan to lead his cast down the red carpet in Toronto and connect with festival goers at a time when limited U.S. releases are expected.
Egoyan’s drama will debut in September as a special presentation side Part of the sidebar, and marks the Canadian director’s 18 Toronto premiere of the 17Movie.
One of the main selling points for booking Canadian films at high-profile evenings or special screenings is, for example, the Seven Veils , they often cast Hollywood stars in key roles to secure U.S. and other international sales. If Hollywood labor action persists, it could help TIFF generate star power in September.
Seyfried starred alongside Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in Ego Young’s 2009 Thriller Chloe, takes a bow in Toronto. “We are honored to be premiering Atom Egoyan’s extraordinary film at this year’s festival. Egoyan’s filmography is unparalleled and we are delighted to present Seven Veils to our TIFF audience and his hometown of Toronto,” the Toronto Film Festival said in a statement.
Egoyan wrote the screenplay for The Seven Veils while also producing with producers Longtime collaborators Niv Fichman, Simone Urdl, Fraser Ash and Kevin Krikst. XYZ Film’s Aram Tertzakian, Nate Bolotin, Maxime Cottray and Nick Spicer executive produce, along with Cinetic Media’s John Sloss, Elevation Pictures’ Noah Segal and Adrian Love.
This film is produced by Rhombus Media and Ego Film Arts. XYZ Films will handle worldwide sales, while Elevation Pictures will distribute the independent films in Canada.
Toronto Film Festival will be held from September 7th to and more lineups will be announced in the coming weeks.
