BRUSSELS (Reuters) – U.S. online retail giant Amazon (NASDAQ:
AMZN) Two EU antitrust probes could be concluded by the end of the year after tweaking the concession to address concerns over its use of seller data, two people familiar with the matter said on Friday.
Getting the EU to settle the investigation means the company will avoid fines of up to as a percentage of its global turnover.
Faced with using its size, capabilities and data to market its own products to gain an unfair advantage over rival merchants also using its platform In July, Amazon pledged not to use seller data for its competing retail business and its private-label products.
The European Commission then sought feedback from competitors and customers, before saying the company needed to improve the concession.
Amazon has increased the range of data it cannot use, a person familiar with the matter said.
“It is possible that the EU will make a decision before the end of the year,” the source said.
The EU competition enforcer declined to comment.
