Amazon has recruited a former Marvel boss as the streamer plans to focus more on comic book movies and TV shows.
Joe Quesada, former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and former Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, has partnered with the retailer Giants sign exclusive priority movie and TV deals. Under the agreement, Quesada will focus on adapting existing and new comic book IP for the Jennifer Salke-led stream.
“Joe has been a unique and influential creative force, guiding some of the most iconic storytelling in existence today,” said Nick Pepe, Amazon’s head of U.S. development. Per said. “The opportunity to bring his expertise and vision to Amazon Studios opens up a world of possibility, and we can’t wait to see what he brings next.”
Amazon, which is already working with studio-based Phil Lord and Sony-owned Marvel projects Chris Miller now has a seasoned comic book mogul, Has a keen understanding of characters and writers. Quesada worked at Marvel for years, helping craft storylines that would become big screen arcs, including Civil War, Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy. Characters he developed include Ms. Marvel and Miles Morales, the Oscar-winning Spider-Man Key Characters: Enter the Sider-verse. During his tenure as Creative Director, he was a major player in Marvel Studios’ first films and TV series, and has been credited with the likes of Executive Producer Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“I cannot express how excited I am to join the Amazon Studios family,” Quesada said. “From the moment Nick Pepper, Matt King, and the team approached me, it was clear that we spoke the same language and shared the same creative goals. It was also clear that they were creating a collaborative environment and unique approach that made me Surprised no one has thought of implementing it yet, but I’m sure it will be imitated soon.”
Streaming as part of Amazon’s deal with Sony for Marvel games The media is teaming up with former The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang at the helm of Silk: Spider Society, the first anticipated slate based on the studio universe, featuring more than characters.
