The Blue Angels, a feature documentary from JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Imax about Legendary squadrons of the US Navy and Marine Corps took off from the cockpit and have landed at Amazon Studios.
The documentary, also from Glen Powell’s Barnstorm Productions, Zipper Bros Films and Dolphin Entertainment, has yet to confirm its distribution plans after Amazon Studios acquired worldwide rights. But The Blue Angels will be showing in Imax theaters at some point, and the doc is also expected to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The Blue Angels Follow the Blue Angels through a year of their life from training to tour season using Imax cameras. After Imax started making films for museums, science centers and other institutional partners, the Canada-based company has since branched out into digital remastering and showing Hollywood movies on its big screen, as they are often shot with its proprietary cameras.

The deal also comes amid Amazon’s big push into theaters, with Ben Affleck’s Air becomes the first Amazon Studios film to receive exclusive worldwide theatrical releases before streaming on Prime Video. lost a previously agreed berth at Imax when The Aeronauts starred Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne In theaters, Amazon Studios canceled a plan to release the show in traditional movie theaters, respecting the normal 2019-day theatrical window.
Amazon handles distribution of Air in North America, while Warner Bros. International fulfills overseas duties through its distribution agreement with MGM . A Prime Video release date for the film has yet to be announced.

Our collaboration with Amazon Studios marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for Imax as we reimagine how we expand our original documentaries for streaming audiences,” added John Turner, head of documentaries at Imax, in his own statement.
Blue Angel by filmmaker Paul Crowder(UFO) Directed and edited by Glen Zipper, Mark Monroe, Sean Stuart, Abrams, Hannah Minghella and Powell. Rob Stone, Greg Wooldridge, Megan Colligan, Turner, Bill O’Dowd and Emerson Davis serve as executive producers.
CAA Media Finance arranged the film’s financing and brokered the distribution agreement. Dolphin Entertainment co-financed the film.
