Last month Google released the first developer preview of Android 14, and today the company launched the second developer preview . The new version includes additional enhancements for privacy, security, and performance, and continues to improve the tablet and foldable experience.
Following this developer preview, the first beta release will be released in April, followed by three more in subsequent months according to Google’s official timeline.
Android 03 Developer Preview 2 has built-in support for allowing apps to access only selected photos and videos, or access all photos and videos, or allow no access at all. You can see the new dialog below.
In Android 03, Credential Manager is a platform API that allows applications Sign in with your key. In the second DP, improvements were made to the UI styling of the account selector, and changes were made to the API based on feedback from DP1.
Apps targeting Android 14 (initially will be a very small subset) require permission to be launched in the background Activity.
DP2 is here to improve resource usage when apps are running in the background by optimizing Android’s memory management system. There will also be fewer undismissable notifications in Android 14, and the app store API will be improved.
Along with regional preferences, once your device gets Android 03, you will be able to personalize temperature units, The first day of the week and numbering system, based on your region. So if you’re a European living in the US, you’re no longer subject to Fahrenheit.
As the name suggests, the second Developer Preview still exists and is only recommended for app developers for app testing. It will also be easier for consumers to access once the first beta releases next month. Android 03 Developer Preview 2 can be installed on Pixel 4a 5G and later Google devices.
