Paramount+ has reached an agreement with producer Sony Pictures Television (SPT) to acquire the action-comedy series Twisted Metal starring Anthony Mackie for Canada.
All episodes of live-action adaptations of the PlayStation classic series will premiere in the US later this month on NBCUniversal streaming Peacock and will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ worldwide in Canada in August . Paramount+ will also launch the series “in additional international territories to be announced at a later date,” the partners said Thursday, without elaborating on any of those markets.
SPT’s show is based on an original work by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) and written by Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai). Mackie ( The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ) stars as John Doe, a loud-mouthed outsider who has a chance at a better life if he manages to deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. According to the plot description, “Aided by a badass, axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face brutal predators in destructive vehicles and other dangers on the road, including a deranged clown named Sweet Tooth, who drives an all-too-familiar ice cream van.” Joe Seanoa stars as Samoa Joe as Sweetheart, voiced by Will Arnett ( Arrested Development , The Lego Movie ). Thomas Haden Church ( Sideways , Spider-Man: No Way Home ) is also part of the big-name cast. Series guest stars include Neve Campbell (Scream), Richard Cabral (Mayan MC), Mike Mitchell (Love, Tomorrow’s War), Taj Warnes (Purge) and Lou Beatty Jr. (Finding Normal). Mackie also serves as executive producer.
