Apple has announced its Self Repair Program, which allows users to repair certain iPhone models themselves. Self-service repairs will be available for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops with M1 series chips. As part of the service, Apple will provide repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through Apple Self Repair Shops.

With Repair Services, customers with extensive experience in the intricacies of repairing electronics will gain the ability to complete repairs on these Mac laptops. They also have access to many of the same parts and tools available from Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.
Apple will also offer MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptop rental kits for $49. Through it, customers who do not want to buy tools for a single repair can still use these professional repair tools. Customers will be able to use the kit for a week with free shipping.
To begin the self-repair process, customers first need to review the repair manual for the product they purchased and want to fix it by visiting the Apple Support page. They can then visit an Apple Self Repair Shop and order the necessary parts and tools.
Through this unique program, Apple expands the options for customers to use original repaired machines at home with Apple Tools. Apple first announced a self-repair option on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series and iPhone SE (3rd generation) in April. Through this service, customers can send replacement parts back to Apple for refurbishment and recycling. For certain repairs, customers will earn points when returning replacement parts for recycling.

Self-service repairs are part of Apple’s efforts to further expand repair coverage. For customers inexperienced with repairing electronic devices, it is recommended that you go to a professional repair provider with certified technicians using genuine Apple parts.
Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of repairs. Service locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools and training, including more than 3,500 independent repair suppliers. A global network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 working technicians. Thus, in the US, 8 out of 10 Apple customers are within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider.
