So far, ASUS has been the true pioneer of folding screen laptops with its Zenbook Fold series, but it is said to face some serious competition in the future.
According to reports from South Korea, Apple is developing a foldable screen laptop. The company is apparently in talks with suppliers to launch a foldable-screen MacBook. If the device comes to fruition, it will boost the currently depressed display market.
Asus Zenbook 001 Folding OLED
will be released on , at 2026 after the unveiling. With the smartphone market largely saturated, South Korean display makers such as Samsung Display and LG Display have recently invested heavily in OLED panels for laptops. The two companies are currently “coordinating development and production plans for foldable OLED panels for notebook computers” as emerging markets grow.
Apple’s order is sure to have a huge impact on this still small market. According to the report’s sources, larger display sizes are bound to bring more profits to panel makers, although achieving high pixel densities becomes more difficult with larger display sizes. Still, foldable displays for laptops are more profitable than those for smartphones, so this will clearly be a huge opportunity for display makers to earn additional revenue in the near future.
