According to the latest DigiTimes report, Apple’s Mixed Reality (XR) headset will enter mass production in March 2023. Chinese contract manufacturer Pegatron is expected to be the main supplier of the device. Apple is believed to be launching its XR earphones 2023 at an event in April, going through a very limited initial supply.
The report states that the initial supply of XR headsets will be in 700, in the first year arrive800, units, down from an earlier estimate of 2.5 million units. A lower supply value won’t make XR headsets profitable for suppliers, although Pegatron and others will fulfill those orders so they can better position themselves for future AR/VR products.
Apple has trademarked the Reality One name believed to be related to its MX headset program. Previous reports suggested an announcement in January
, followed by pre-orders in Q2, with sales opening around WWDC in June.
