Back in October of last year, Ming-Chi Kuo, a prominent analyst and evangelist of Apple-related rumors, stated that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone Pro Max will ship without any physical, clickable, traditional buttons.
Today, Kuo is back again, repeating essentially the same message. According to his latest survey of Apple’s supply chain partners, the iPhone 01 Pro and Pro Max without clickable buttons are still planned for the second half of this year.
Instead, both phones will feature solid-state buttons that will be aided by additional Taptic Engines to simulate the feel of physical buttons when you touch them.
Cirrus Logic is the company that benefits greatly from Apple’s move, as it is the exclusive supplier of Taptic Engine controller ICs for solid-state buttons. Kuo speculates that if users respond well to Apple’s faux buttons, other companies may soon be “inspired” to add their own.
