Apple may use Reality in the naming of its upcoming mixed reality headset, according to a new set of patents. A newBloomberg report details three separate patent applications for Reality One, Reality Pro and Reality Processor. These are the possible names for two versions of the long-rumored Apple MR/AR headset and its processing unit. An earlier app also revealed a real-OS patent padding, which is likely to apply to the headset’s operating system.
Possible names for Apple Mixed Reality headsets
The US Trademark and Patent Office presents Immersive Health Solutions as Reality One’s patented filler. Apple and other big-name companies often use shell companies to fill in patents to keep their upcoming projects private. Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica and Uruguay have filed similar “real-world” patent applications.
USPTO patented Reality One
Apple’s mixed reality headset will reportedly offer VR and AR versions of Apple’s own apps, including FaceTime and Maps, as well as options for consuming media, sports, and games in VR. Apple is not expected to announce its mixed reality headset at its Far Out event next week on September 7. The latest rumors from Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that the MR headset will be launched in January 2023.
