Apple Watch Ultra 2 to feature 3D printed parts, launch later this year

Ming-Chi Kuo, a prolific purveyor of Apple-related rumors and inside information, released a new report today. This time around, analysts have confirmed previous rumors that Apple will release a sequel to the original Apple Watch Ultra, which will be released later this year.

Kuo only mentions that the new wearable is coming in the second half of this year, but it stands to reason that its launch will either be in September alongside the new iPhone, or less likely in October. Posted in another event. Whenever it’s unveiled, it’ll showcase an interesting feat: 3D-printed parts.

Apple is said to be aggressively adopting 3D printing technology and will use the process for “some titanium mechanical parts” of the upcoming Watch Ultra.

The parts still need to go through some CNC processes, but even just shifting some parts of production to 3D printing would still cut production time and cost – which is why we assume Apple is doing this .

Guo revealed that Farsoon and BLT are Apple’s 3D printer suppliers, while IPG Photonics is the exclusive supplier of the required laser components. If bringing 3D printing to Apple Watch Ultra production works well, the company expects to incorporate the technology in more products in the future.
