Apple’s recent satellite SOS feature enabled on the iPhone 14 series in the US and Canada has helped save a stranded man at Nimiuk Point, Alaska. The Alaska Department of Public Safety has released a report clarifying that a stranded snowmobile driver was rescued by Alaska police after activating the emergency SOS function on his iPhone at 2 a.m. local time on December 1.
The report clarifies that Apple Emergency Response provided Northwest Arctic Search and Rescue with the exact GPS coordinates of the trapped man. A team of four volunteers was then sent to track him down.
Apple’s Emergency SOS feature is currently available to Apple users in the US and Canada, and is expected to roll out across France, Germany, Ireland and the US and UK later this month.
