Assassin’s Creed Phantom is the next entry in Ubisoft’s long-running action-adventure series, arriving in 2023. The publisher announced the release date today at its Ubisoft Forward event. Set 20 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the game will reunite fans with Basim Ibn Ishaq and return the series to its hidden roots.
In a briefing held ahead of today’s presentation, Ubisoft Bordeaux, the project’s lead development studio, described Basim as the most nimble assassin in franchise history. He’ll have new abilities to help him avoid detection, some of which you can see in the movie trailer shared by Ubisoft today. An integral part of Bassim’s outfit is his pet eagle, Enkidu. Just like Senu in Origins, Enkidu can scout you ahead of time for potential threats, but new in Mirage is that there will be archers Your feathered friends can be found and taken out. In addition to new gadgets, including smoke bombs and poison mines, Bassim will also have the ability to briefly slow time and plot multiple assassinations.
With the action largely returning to a single city – Baghdad circa 861 AD – parkour will play a bigger role than recent games. Ubisoft Bordeaux says Basim will be one of the fastest free agents in franchise history, with a mobile set that includes new and returning tricks. Meanwhile, the story will focus on the Hidden Ones, an organization that predates the Assassin Brotherhood and will see Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, Destiny 2) Play as Bassim’s mentor Roshan.
When next year comes, Assassin’s Creed Phantom will be available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna and PC. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to The Last Chapter. Free DLC will arrive later this year and complete Valhalla‘s story.
