jumped from 45fps to 59fps. However, not every game has seen massive growth, for example
Cyberpunk 2077, only went up 2 fps. Asus, do better
These are certainly very impressive results from a series of simple firmware and driver updates that better showcase just how powerful the ROG Ally’s specs are. But taking a closer look at what these updates do and don’t require, the handheld still has some hangups. First, the comparison is done at 720p resolution, which is pretty good, but still doesn’t take advantage of the 1080p display that the ROG Ally sports. Not to mention that if testing at a higher frame rate, the frame rate will definitely affect the before and after results. This is also what was already pointed out in the Tom’s Guide comment Portable.
Second, even though these results are the same across all resolution boards, it doesn’t change the fact that the ASUS ROG Ally should be released this way. Depending on the model, you
are currently paying $700 for this system (a cheaper version coming later this year), it is sold as having High – The final specification that results in excellent performance. But it doesn’t bode well for you to even need an update to deal with these claims after the system is available for pre-order.
Admittedly, it’s best to release the update before the retail release, but buyers are still required to update their systems as soon as they receive it . The fact that the system has been in development for at least five years means there should be some kind of fix before pre-order models are shipped to retailers.
Let’s hope Asus learns from this and does better for the next version of the ROG Ally as it’s still a solid handheld with a lot of potential equipment.
