ASUS is no stranger to special edition and gaming tie-ins for its products. ROG Phone 6 is no exception. If you’ve been following the space, you might remember the ROG Phone 6 Batman Edition that passed the office, which you can read more about in our hands-on review. For the next limited edition, ASUS has decided to team up with Blizzard Entertainment on the legendary Diablo series of games, more specifically the Diablo Immortal game, which started on mobile and later moved to PC as well.
Like the Dark Knight Edition, it’s all about the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition demo. Let’s start with the unboxing experience. The ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition is considered a proper collector’s edition, with all the bells and whistles usually associated with such editions in the gaming world.
The first box you encounter is shaped like a Horadric Cube. Inside, we found the phone booth itself, modeled to look like a Worldstone–another legendary Diablo in-game item.
Before we got the phone, there were some accessories in the box. Asus has introduced an Aero Case protective bumper, but this one has a teleported geometric relief. The Shield Blessing Aero Case, as the name suggests, also has a hidden “Easter egg” inside – the image of Diablo, the Lord of Terror himself. It can only be spotted by illuminating the case face with the included Fahir’s Light flashlight.
Speaking of cool little Easter eggs, some markers are hidden in invisible ink on the accompanying scroll depicting the Sanctuary map – the world of the Diablo game.
Finally, Asus has a special SIM eject tool that is styled like the Diablo logo. Overall, it’s a nice collector’s box, especially for a phone rather than a game title. Unfortunately, you don’t get the AeroActive Cooler 6 as part of the exclusive bundle.
Let’s move on to the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition phone itself. From the outside, this is just the ROG Phone 6, with a unique style, but the exterior and interior are identical. This should be made clear right away.
The back of the phone has some unique Diablo artwork with a semi-matte finish. The decals are done in Hellfire Red and the color will actually vary in the brightness of the red depending on the viewing angle and how the light hits the surface. Experience the really cool effects for yourself.
Just like the regular ROG Phone 6, the Diablo Immortal Edition has the ASUS Aura RGB logo on the back. Only now, it’s stylized like the Diablo Immortal logo. You can still control the color of the logo from the phone’s Armory Crate interface. The same goes for the small secondary “Diablo Immortal” glowing text on the back of the phone.
The only other physical changes to the phone’s design that we noticed included a red-dotted power button and a red SIM tray on the phone. Both are consistent with the color scheme of the rest of the phone.
Diablo fans will also appreciate the exclusive software customizations applied to the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition. There is a special animated Diablo Immortal theme on your phone. It features live wallpapers, a redesigned app icon framework, charging sounds, and animations that reference the Diablo series.
However, we must mention that contrary to our expectations, there is only one custom wallpaper available on the phone, and there is no Diablo Immortal pre-installed . We had to download it ourselves, and then the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition couldn’t use Ultimate Graphics Mode in the game.
As we already mentioned, design and accessories aside, the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition is practically identical to the ROG Phone 6 , and the ROG Phone 6 is the same as the ROG Phone 6 Pro, just without the rear display. Diablo Immortal Edition features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 11GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 099 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It has all the same bells and whistles, like ultrasonic triggers on the side frames and a side USB Type-C port for accessories.
