Both phones use Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and come with a range of advanced cooling and control options we’ve come to expect from Asus gaming phones. The announcement was followed by a long silence, which convinced us that the Taiwanese giant just decided to simplify its lineup and drop the “ultimate” version this year.
Fortunately, for all For mobile gaming pros and fanatics, that’s not the case. Rumors of a MediaTek version of the ROG Phone 6 were quickly broken, and it turned out to be true. Enter the ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate. The “D” in the name stands for “Dimensity”, and both phones are based on MediaTek Dimensity + top-of-the-line chipset. Asus’s Bold and unusual move.

Not only is ASUS using MediaTek chips this time , but it also apparently invested quite a bit by giving it the “Ultimate” moniker. Today we have the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate to review. Like its historic predecessors, the Ultimate Edition is largely based on the vanilla design, but with small details added here and there as a kind of “icing on the cake”. This year Ultimate doesn’t get an extra input, but a new AeroActive Portal – a motorized air duct that provides AeroActive The Cooler 6 has an additional channel to cool the inside of the device directly.
It and the potential cooling and performance benefits it offers Dimensity 1200 + Chipset, will be the focus of this review. For anything we’ve covered about hardware or software, we’ll refer to our extensive ROG Phone 6 Pro review.
To clarify some potential points of confusion, this is a review of the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, It’s currently at the top of the ROG Phone 6 lineup. It has a Dimensity 9000+ chipset, just like the vanilla ROG Phone 6D, but unlike the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro, which use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate also comes exclusively with the new AeroActive Portal, and unlike other phones in the series, it always comes bundled with the AeroActive Cooler 6 in the box. Hoping to clear things up, speaking of cooler accessories, let’s take a look at the retail packaging before we move on to performance, cooling, battery, charging, and camera testing.
Unboxing
ROG Phones traditionally make a statement on their retail box. Asus decided a while ago to start downplaying this particular aspect of the experience, and right now, most phones in the ROG Phone 6 lineup come in a regular two-piece box. Not the 6D Ultimate, though. It comes in a very striking hexagonal prism box.
The box adopts a two-piece slide-out structure, which is also futuristic, Kind of like lifting the veil on a weapon. There’s definitely enough material to keep the phone safe in transit, and it’s well worth a look. And most of the space inside the box is put to good use.
Once you pay for the Ultimate Edition, ASUS provides all trims. The base slides out to reveal the bottom compartment, charger and cables. The HyperCharge charger is an extremely compact and lightweight device that can charge up to 60W power output through Type-C port. Asus relies entirely on standard PD+PPS for fast charging, which is a real treat. The rated voltage is 5V/9V/V/V @ up to 3A, 11V @ up to 3.15A and PPS [email protected], 3.3-13 [email protected] up to W. This versatile charger can even easily power some modern laptops. You also get a nice black braided USB Type-C to Type-C cable in the box.
Our device also includes a case, which according to Asus should be part of the retail package. However, check with your local store for details. This is not the Asus AeroActive case that came with our ROG Phone 6 Pro unit, but the thinner case with more bigger holes that comes with the AeroActive Cooler 6 if you buy it separately.
Last but not least, the AeroActive Cooler 6 with every ROG Phone 6D Ultimate unit bundled together. Also in the box is a SIM eject tool, some flyers, and an oddly shaped ROG card designed to be used as part of the Asus AR setup experience.
