The government, which is PwC’s Australian client, has accused the firm of sharing confidential information about new anti-avoidance measures with its corporate clients to win more business , which is called a gross breach of trust. PwC Australia’s chief executive resigned this month, saying the firm was “committed to learning from our mistakes”. “We have asked the Treasury Department to investigate what happened and consider whether criminal charges should be referred to the AFP,” Assistant Treasury Secretary and Minister Stephen Jones from the Department of Financial Services told the ABC Some lawmakers have called for a blanket ban on awarding more government contracts to auditors. PwC declined to comment on Monday. “I think the PwC experience is deeply disturbing and we have already taken some steps, but we will take further steps, ” So did Treasury Secretary Jim Chalmers in an interview on ABC radio on Monday. “I will have more to say about how we combat this behavior, which is frankly inexcusable,” he said.
