Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card will be available in Europe and UK pricing has been spotted, but sadly, those price tags are more worrying for potential buyers than what we’ve already seen in the US.
If you recall, US pricing – for 3rd party models of the RTX 4080, means custom boards made by Nvidia’s manufacturing partners – Appeared at the tail end of last week, and it didn’t make for a pretty viewing overall. Granted, there are around 4080 GPUs sticking to Nvidia’s recommended pricing — which is a relief — but the higher-end models have been pushing a pretty ridiculous premium. If you were hoping things might be better in Europe, then think again based on the early glimpses we’re seeing now.
In the UK, retailer Box has a variety of Asus RTX 4080 models starting from a rather eye-watering £1,399 (TUF Gaming(opens in a new tab)), with entry-level Palit RTX 4080s (opens in a new tab) also reached that level (two GameRock
(opens tab in new version) Variants).
TUF Gaming OC Edition
(Open in new tab) Up to £1,571 from Asus if you want the top of the line – ROG Strix RTX 4080 series (opens in a new tab)
, which would set you back £1,649. Yes, ouch. as Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) pointed out that the situation elsewhere in Europe looks quite Oops. The ASUS TUF RTX 4080 can be had for a whopping €1,430 in France (InfoMax) – close to $1,500 – and in Denmark (Proshop) for 11.299,00 Krone or even more (approximately $1,560).
Analysis: Pricing issues intensified
Keep in mind that the ASUS TUF RTX 4080 mentioned is one of the graphics cards that happens to be sold at MSRP in the US (at least at Micro Center), so see It’s in the UK and Europe. Now, these early prices certainly don’t represent the full picture of RTX 4080 pricing; so we can’t get carried away. Big retailers like Scan, Overclockers in the UK don’t have pricing for any of the RTX 4080 models yet, although there are product listings on the website.
That said, we don’t think it’s a good sign either – more signs that the inventory might be unstable at launch. That would be a sadly familiar situation, and could lead to higher prices anyway, as scalpers look to take stock and possibly sell it at a higher profit.
We’re ahead of the curve, of course, but the whole RTX 4080 launch is starting to fill us with dread. Of course, it’s hard to be optimistic, especially for the UK market, as you still can’t get an RTX 4090 for less than £1,800 (in the new open in a tab). Pricing will eventually be more stable, although some gamers may want to wait for more affordable Nvidia graphics cards to emerge – such as the RTX 4070 Ti (even though affordable will be a relative term here, compared to the prices outlined above, this GPU certainly looks Good deal). Likewise, AMD has options in the form of RDNA 3 GPUs, but again only higher-end models, with the RX 7900 XTX designed to go head-to-head with the RTX 4080.
