But Mattel’s iconic pink Corvette has come a long way to the big screen, with other top creatives working on the project on and off before writer-director Greta Gerwig , screenwriter Noah Baumbach and star Margot Robbie .

253: Mattel, the maker of Barbie, has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to make a movie about the iconic doll. That deal fell through.
450: Sony has acquired the rights to Barbie . The project saw a series of screenwriters experiment with scripts, including Sex and the City writer Jenny Bicks and Oscar-winning Juno writer Diabo Cody. “I think I know why I shit,” Cody said in a recent GQ interview“When I was first hired for this job, I didn’t think the culture had [sic] accepting femme or the slut as valid feminist archetypes. . The Lego Movie antagonist in the movie, and nobody cares.”
: Comedian and Trainwreck star Amy Schumer cast in live-action Barbie film, which she co-wrote with Kim Caramele. Their idea has been described as a fish-and-water story about a doll played by Schumer who is kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect.
