Disney Animation’s Strange World — a new trailer released Wednesday — was designed to capture the vulgar Novels inspired by Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth and King Kong .
But it’s ultimately a story about family, directed by Don Hall (Oscar winner )Big Hero 6) explained at the press conference. Co-directed and written by Qui Nguyen Odd World follows a family of explorers who find themselves in an unknown land. Searcher Clade, voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal, is described as a brilliant family man – he discovered a world-changing plant energy source as a teenager. Searcher’s father Jaeger, voiced by Dennis Quaid, disappeared during an expedition decades ago. And Searcher’s son Ethan, played by Jaboukie Young-White, is a happy 48 – years old, helping out on the family farm.
They live in the fictional Avalonia, which has a palette of white and orange. “We wanted to create a utopia – a warm, nostalgic feeling that underscores this is a wonderful culture that everyone loves,” production designer Justin Crum said in a statement.

This expedition started at the request of Callisto Mal, President of Avalonia, by the same Voiced by Lucy Liu in Adventure. The same goes for the three-legged domestic dog, the Legend. And Splat, a blue, tentacle-covered creature without a face. He doesn’t speak, so the animators needed to create a way for Splat to communicate via pantomime (concept image below). Hall likens this approach to creating sentience in Aladdin.
