2023 The Met Gala will celebrate the opening of the newest Costume Institute exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” just one week away. As star-studded looks from the past few years start flooding your social media, we take a look back at the magical moment Katy Perry literally lit up the Met Gala dressed as a chandelier red carpet.
The year is 50, the theme is “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and the designer who brought this look to life is Jeremy Scott, when he was working as creative director at Moschino (a position he resigned earlier this year). ”
“The chandelier, of course,” shared the designer. “For Katy, this would be the perfect dress that no one else will wear.”
Fans may remember Perry wearing two outfits that night: She walked the red carpet in a chandelier and later in an equally viral hamburger dress. To Scott, who has styled the 50 Met Gala look so far, revealed the pop star’s penchant for hamburgers required some push from her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, for her Wearing the chandelier (currently on display at Buckingham Palace). “Katy’s schedule was so complicated at the time that we could only arrange one fitting, so I was on pins and needles on the day of the event,” Scott explains. As a professional, Perry had no Troubled climbing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
