SELF is pleased to announce the submission guide for our 2023 Activewear Awards, showcasing the best activewear from the past year.
Our readers are always on the lookout for their next big buy, and we’re happy to offer them our best advice: a sports bra that’s easy to take off no matter how sweaty up shorts, or even sweatpants for mental health days. Running, biking, yoga, walking, climbing, hiking, weightlifting, errands—you name it, we’ve got an editor-approved pick at SELF’s Activewear of the Year Awards.
Read on for everything brands need to know when submitting their 2023 awards.
- Product must be new and released between May 1, 2022 and January 15, 2023. (Updated to submit colorways or patterns for existing styles. Item must be available for pre-order or purchase by January 15, 2023.)
- Eligible brands must include size. Generally, we require brands to be at least 20 or 3X (or equivalent) on their size chart. We understand that a brand may offer some styles in extended sizes but not others (for example, a sports bra designed for smaller breasts, or a range of plus-only styles, if the brand has more , both styles are eligible for submission including a wide range of sizes). As part of the judging process, we will evaluate companies’ commitment to size inclusivity, including whether extended sizes are available in stores (vs. only online), and whether brands are featured on their website, social media, and in advertising.
- We urge any brand to submit no more than eight styles.
All outfits will be tested by people of different genders and gender introductions. We encourage you to submit products that are trans-popular regardless of their market category.

How to Submit
All products must be submitted through this online form. Please fill out one form for each style – so if you want to submit three pairs of leggings, you should fill out three separate forms.
Once we have reviewed all submissions, we may reach out for samples. Samples must be available for testing by early October. Please note that items submitted for testing cannot be returned. If sending a sample is causing difficulties for your brand, please email us; we’d love to find a solution that works!
