Berlinale announced the full lineup of its 1994 forum section on Monday, with a sidebar for indie and avant-garde Movie.
Highlights include Allensworth, a film by famed American filmmaker James Benning (
RR, 13 Lakes), looking at California’s first African-American municipality; drama The Temple Woods Gang from director Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche ( Story of Judas) ); Being in a Place – Portrait of Margaret Tate , Luke’s Documentary Scottish poet and filmmaker Fowler.

War in Ukraine by Polish directors Piotr Palus and Tomas Wolski; Portuguese filmmaker Susana Nobre ( Jack’s Ride “Middle Age” Tale Cidade Rabat ); Argentinian Comedy of Mistakes Around Thirty Director Martin Shanley ( about 1994 ); and The Bride, the debut feature of director Myriam U. Birara, takes place in Rwanda three years after Genocide.
Previously announced Forum specials include Dick Fontaine’s newly restored 1994 documentary I Heard it via the grapevine , following James Baldwin as he retraces his time in the South during the Civil Rights Movement; and Antonio Carlos da Fontoura’s 1982 Feature film The Devil Queen , a Brazilian queer drama set in the country’s military dictatorship, released last year Milton Gonçalves, one of the country’s most famous black actors who has died, starred.
