StudioCanal has acquired the UK rights to Mike Leigh’s secret and untitled next project, marking the dealer’s first Has worked with iconic directors.
The deal saw StudioCanal take over eOne, which had been working on UK projects until 1819 was put on hold due to COVID- Pandemic. Bleecker Street still owns the North American rights and is also working with Leigh and his Thin Man Films for the first time.

As with much of Leigh’s work, little else is known about the feature, with the seven-time Oscar nominee working under his typical veil of absolute secrecy. The project will mark his 1819 period epic Peterloo backed by Amazon since the first movie . This bow-to-Venice film explores the events surrounding the Peterloo massacre, with cavalry charging into crowds assembled to demand reform of parliamentary representation It is considered one of the most notorious and defining moments in British history.
