Tonight’s 2022 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California celebrates the best TV shows and performances of the year — but beforehand on the red carpet On, the paparazzi are cheering for something a little different: A-listers in their best formal attire. True to tradition, many of the stars in attendance stuck to the signature glamour of tonight’s event. The sequins on the designer dresses are heavy, brighter than the disco ball in the studio 54.
Considering that the best gowns of the night were all sequins and beads, many of the styles were simple and streamlined. Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung’s sequin stitching, for example, was done on a simple slip dress; Amanda Seyfried’s lilac sequins are from Armani Privé’s shoulderless Column dress with sheer (barely) tulle on the skirt. Both let the delicious texture of the dress shine through. Likewise, Lily James’ body-hugging Versace chainmail dress, and Christina Ricci’s dazzling Fendi Couture slip dress, all fit well—and they’re all meant to stand out.
It’s not all glitz, though. Some celebrities have opted for more minimalist elegance. Zendaya embraced Old Hollywood in a bespoke Valentino in a strapless full skirt gown. This is a tribute to the classic designs of Valentino’s Fall/Winter 1987 collection. The White Lotus‘s Alexandra Daddario also stood out in a sheer one-shoulder tulle gown from Dior Haute Couture, embellished with delicate beading.
There’s even some risk tonight – namely Julia Garner’s Gucci embroidered dress, at the navel, And Jasmin Savoy Brown in a latex dress by Christopher Kane with cutouts at the hips and chest. The skin is very visible!
