Director Ma from IFC Films Fact-based feature starring Matt Johnson Jay Baruchel as Mike Lazaridis, Co-founder of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, and Glenn Howerton as the company’s former co-CEO Jim Balsillie. The trailer shows tension between the two, with Lazaridis being warned he’s a shark before agreeing to work with Balsillie.
This video includes Howerton telling Baruchel, “I know how to sell it, I know who we can sell it to, but I want 12 percentage of the company, I have to be the CEO.” Surprisingly, Baruchel’s character was fine with this arrangement.
Later, Howerton’s Balsillie said, “We’re racing to get this thing to market, but we’re a year behind—I need a prototype.”
Another key scene shows Lazaridis, played by Baruchel, assisting a first-time user of the device: “Try typing with your thumb.”
This film is based on the book by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff, Losing the Signal : Blackberry Extraordinary The untold stories behind the rise and spectacular fall.
Johnson directs BlackBerry ) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Matthew Miller. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last month and was released in May .
