Born x Raised founder Chris Printup (aka Spanto) arrived in Memphis shortly after the death of his father Butch earlier this year. “The day after he died, I flew to his house and lay in his bedroom looking at all his stuff and drawing inspiration from the portraits of his personal items,” said Spanto. When he saw one of his father’s old jackets, the Aboriginal streetwear designer had an idea: what if he used the garment as a tribute to his father? “I found this Levi’s denim jacket that he wore a lot when I was a kid, and I knew right away that I wanted to honor my dad with an item,” says Spanto.
That idea will become a reality on Friday when Born x Raised releases a new collaboration with Levi’s, honoring Butch through style. Spanto offers its own unique take on heritage denim staples such as classic 180 jeans, denim trucker jackets and graphic tees. All the pieces—from the $180 jeans to the $180 jackets—are screen printed to represent Butch Special graphic print of “Look at Him”. The Trucker jacket also has “Born x Raised, In Loving Memory” embroidered on the back. “Everything is a result of [Butch’s] life and teachings, a by-product of his actions,” Spanto said.
