The Chai Box is recalling certain bottles of Chai Concentrate Mix due to possible botulism contamination.
These deviations are part of a commercial sterilization process and may result in contamination with spoilage organisms or pathogens that, if consumed, could result in life-threatening illness.
The company was notified of this issue during a process review by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
Products are shipped to consumers, retailers and wholesalers across the country. Some products were also shipped to two consumers in Canada. This product is available for purchase online and through retail and wholesale facilities.

Recalled are 16 oz glass and 64 oz plastic bottles, best before date From September 22, 2022 to March 16, 2023.

As of the time of publication of this recall, there is no information regarding illnesses associated with this product to date.
If consumers have any recalled products, they should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange.
About Botulism

“In foodborne botulism, symptoms usually begin 18 to 36 hours after eating the contaminated food. However, symptoms may appear after 6 hours or up to 10 days, ” according to the CDC website.
Symptoms of botulism may include all of the following: diplopia, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, thick tongue, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. People with botulism may not exhibit all of these symptoms at the same time.
These symptoms are caused by muscle paralysis caused by toxins. If left untreated, the disease may progress and symptoms may worsen, causing paralysis of specific muscles, including those used for breathing and those in the arms, legs, and body from the neck to the pelvic area.
