Brady Stevens, the son of Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens, has committed to play college basketball at Notre Dame, he announced Saturday (h/t The Athletic’s Jay King).
Stevens will play under his father’s former assistant, Micah Shrewsberry, who served as an assistant for the Celtics under Brad from 2013-19. Brad served as Boston’s head coach from 2013 until he was elevated to his current role following the 2020-21 season.
Shrewsberry is entering his first season as head coach of the Fighting Irish after coaching Penn State from 2021-23. He went 37-31 in his two seasons with the Nittany Lions and is coming off a 2022-23 campaign in which he led the team into the NCAA tournament.
Stevens joins a 2024 Notre Dame class that includes four-stars Sir Mohammed and Cole Certa and three-star Garrett Sundra. Mohammed is the son of former NBA center Nazr Mohammed.
Stevens, who will be a walk-on at Notre Dame, plays for Wellesley High School in Massachusetts. He is entering his senior season.
Notre Dame is coming off a disappointing 2022-23 season in which it finished with an 11-21 record and missed the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Shrewsberry overhauled much of the roster this summer, bringing in Kebba Njie, a transfer from Penn State, Carey Booth, Logan Imes and Julian Roper II, among others. He’s hoping the roster changes will pay off, though it could take some time for the Fighting Irish to become competitive again.
