The Cleveland Browns reportedly reached a deal on Sunday with free-agent offensive lineman Joe Haig. The move comes after Haig’s visit to the Las Vegas Raiders and provides some security for the Browns as starting right tackle Jack Conklin continues to recover from knee surgery.
Hague, 29, a six-year NFL veteran, was fired last week by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Indianapolis Colts originally selected North Dakota Sean in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft Grid, he spent four seasons at Indy. He then spent 2020 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 2021 with the Steelers, winning the Super Bowl in his only season in Tampa. Still as a Day 3 pick, Haig was basically a starter in 2016 Started 14 times as a rookie this year and 15 next season.
Over the next three seasons, he started only nine games in total, and last season he played for the Steelers He only started two of the 12 games he played.
Haig has been primarily a right tackle throughout his NFL career, which is why the Browns can be called upon to sign him. Seen as a move directly related to Conklin; however, he has some versatility and the ability to play linebacker.
When fully healthy, Browns have one of the best offenses Conklin, Jedrick Wills Jr., Joel Soccer line led by Bitonio and Wyatt Teller. However, in a way, as center Nick Harris landed on the injured bench and was taken by Ethan Posic replaced. Cleveland’s offensive line is arguably more important than ever this season, with quarterback Dershaw Nvorson will miss the Browns’ first 11 games due to suspension. Browns stats heavily relying on Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt and DeEuness The running game of T. Johnson’s trio, coupled with quarterback Jacoby Brissett will need the best possible protection to have a chance to thrive in Watson’s absence.
