MONTREAL — General manager Kent Hughes announced Thursday that the Canadiens have acquired forward Sean Monahan and a conditional 2025 first-round pick from the Calgary Flames in exchange for future consideration.
The following are the first round selection criteria for Montreal: 1 . If Calgary’s own 2024 first (1) round selection is to select 20-32 (inclusive) (after the results of the 2024 NHL draft lottery are determined), Montreal has the option to exercise 2024 48 hours prior to start Swap a conditional 2025 or 2026 first-round selection for Calgary’s own 2024 first (1) round selection) in the NHL draft; Or , if Florida’s 2025 first (first) round selection moves to Calgary (subject to previous trade conditions) 2. If the conditions in #1 above to trigger the Montreal option do not exist, or Montreal refuses to exercise the option, the following conditions shall prevail :
- A) If Calgary’s own 2025 first (1) round selection and Florida 2025 2025 NHL Draft (after the results of the 2025 NHL Draft lottery are determined), Montreal will receive two (2) said selections The earlier one of; or ,
- B) If Calgary’s own 2025 first (first) round selection is a top 10 selection and Florida State The 2025 first-round selection (previously acquired by Calgary) is not in the top 10 (after the 2025 NHL draft lottery results are determined), and Montreal will receive Florida State’s 2025 first (first) round selection).
- 2) Florida State’s 2025 first (1) round selection has moved to another NHL club; and ,
- 3) Florida State’s 2025 first-round pick position is better than Karl Gary’s 2025 first-round pick; Then
If Florida’s 2025 first-round selection does not transfer to Calgary (subject to previous trade conditions) 3. If the conditions in #1 above to trigger the Montreal option do not exist, or Montreal refuses to exercise the option, the following conditions shall prevail : A. If Calgary’s own 2025 first (1) round selection is not in the top 10 of the 2025 NHL Draft (after the results of the 2025 NHL Draft lottery are determined), Montreal will receive Calgary’s own 2025 First (1) Round Selection, In addition,
- 1) If Florida’s own 2025 1st (first) round picks not at the top – 10 2025 NHL draft picks (after 2025 NHL draft lottery results are determined); and ,
Calgary will Move their own 2025 fourth-round selection to Montreal. B. If Calgary’s own 2025 first (1) round selection is a top 10 selection (after the results of the 2025 NHL draft lottery are determined), Montreal will receive Calgary’s 2025 first (1) round selection subject to the following Conditions: 1) If Calgary’s 2025 first (1st) round selection Is the first (1st) selection overall in the 2025 NHL Draft (after the results of the 2025 NHL Draft lottery are determined), Calgary will retain its 2025 first (1st) round selection and Montreal will acquire Calgary Own 2025 third (3) round selection and conditional 2026 first (1) round selection. Montreal will receive Calgary’s 2026 first (first) round selection
or Florida State’s 2026 1st (first) round selection (after 2026 NHL draft lottery results are determined) (previously conditionally acquired by Calgary).
