Matthew McConaughey will star in The Rivals of Amziah Kim, a crime thriller written and directed by Andrew Patterson, director of The Expanse of Night .
Black Bear Pictures and Heyday Films are producing an upcoming film, Black Bear International ) will open its international pre-sale next week at the Film Market in Cannes. WME Independent is handling US rights.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but McConaughey will play the title role of Amziah King in the film set in backwoods Oklahoma. David Heyman (Gravity, Harry Potter Franchise ) will produce films through his heyday, alongside Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler from Black Bear. Executive producers include Heyday’s Rob Silva, as well as Black Bear’s John Friedberg and Christopher Casanova.
Amziah King will be Patterson’s critically acclaimed debut sequel. The Vast of Night premiered at the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival and was selected by Amazon for films around the world studio. 1950s-set sci-fi mystery wins Patterson the Bingham Ray breakout director honors at 2021 Gotham Awards It won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay with co-writer Craig W. The film hit Cannes alongside Black Bear, as well as Max Minghella’s high-concept thriller Shell Starring Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson and Kaia Gerberan; romantic epic On Swift Horses Starring Daisy Edgar Jones, Jacob Elordi and Will Poulter; and Guy Ritchie’s untitled action film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill and Eiza Gonzalez.
