Carnival Street announces second and final season with briefest trailer

Everything will fall into place –

Travis Beacham’s “Victoria Neo-Noir” fantasy series debuts in 2019.

Jennifer Owlett –

Carnival Street , Prime Video’s lavish “Victoria Neo Noir” fantasy series that premiered in 2019, is back for another season. (I called it “part murder mystery, part fairy tale, and 100% completely original” in my review at the time.) The series was renewed for a second season even before season one aired, but the pandemic delayed it these plans. The streaming platform has now announced that its second season, which will premiere in February, will be the last with the shortest trailer.

(Spoilers for Season 1 below.)

As I wrote earlier, Carnival Street adapted from Travis Beecham ( Feature Film Script Pacific Rim

), which he wrote 17 years ago while he was still in film school in North Carolina. Working in the school library, he found himself reading everything from Celtic mythology to Jack the Ripper. All this material feeds into the script for a 10-page short film about a police officer in neo-Victorian London visiting a fairy brothel where a murder takes place. His professor suggested that this theme is better suited for a full function. The finished screenplay first landed on the Hollywood Blacklist in 2005, an annual list of “favorite” plays that have yet to be produced. It took another 14 years to go into production. Legendary Entertainment eventually bought the script in 2015 and reimagined it as a series for Amazon Prime.

Orlando Bloom as Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate , an orphan of Burgue, a human city that coexists with other exotic lands that are home to various mythical creatures: fairies (“Pix”), fauns (“Pucks”), trolls (“Trows”), half Centaurs, Werewolves (“Morroks”), etc. The races used to live peacefully in their respective regions until war broke out with a mysterious group called The Pact. The humans of Burgue sided with the elves to protect their homeland from invaders.

During his military service, Philo met and fell in love with the Genie Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne). But when the Bulger army retreated, the lovers were torn apart. Knowing that Vignette would never leave him willingly, Philo faked her own death so she could evacuate with her countrymen. Many of them ended up in Bourg as refugees to escape being killed by the occupying forces of the Pact. And Philo became a police inspector.

During the course of S1, Philo worked for Solving a string of heinous murders, anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise in the Bourg region. Ultimately, Philo solves his case, but not before he himself is wrongly imprisoned as a suspect — not to mention finding out that he’s a half-demon. His mother, a Pix singer named Erika Starkova, became a scavenger to survive; she was also the first murder victim. Philo also learns that his biological father is none other than Prime Minister Absalon Brespear (Jared Harris). After the goblin revolt, Absalom’s other son Jonah (Arty Froushan) built a ghetto for goblins in the season finale, prohibiting them from leaving or interacting with humans. Philo opted to join Vignette and the other elves of the ghetto.

Trailer only shows Philo and Vigne A tender kiss between Tet – apparently in mid-air, Vignette wrapping him in her wings. Then she let go and he started back to what looked like a burning berg. Beecham has said that at least some characters will venture beyond Bulger in season two to expand the scope of the series — although the titular Carnival Street neighborhood will remain a prominent feature. It looks like Philo will have more murders to investigate. According to the official premise:

In the fantasy world where people and creatures conflict,

No. Season 2 Carnival Street

with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate, aka Philo (Orlando Bloom) raises social tensions as he investigates a series of gruesome murders. Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and Black Raven plan to avenge the unjust oppression of the Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) and Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford). Tourmaline (Kara Crom) inherits a supernatural power that threatens her destiny and The Row’s future. And, after escaping Bulger and her vengeful brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen Spoonros (Tamjin Merchant) and her partner Agrus Astrayn (David Giassi) encounters a radical new society that upends their plans. Shemales are falling apart, freedom is at stake, and each hero will end in an epic Carnival Street .

The second and last Season of Carnival Street will be Premiering on Prime Video on February 17, 2023.
