You can always count on Cate Blanchett to drive your fashion agenda. Never afraid to wear bolder or outlandish looks, the Oscar-nominated actor and her longtime stylist Elizabeth Stewart were at the forefront of dramatic fashion on the red carpet. However, especially this awards season, they’ve also been showing how to make more sustainable red carpet choices.
Last night was no exception. Blanchett attended the Green Carpet Fashion Awards in Hollywood in a custom Valentino haute couture suit made from a mix of atelier dead stock and archival fabrics. The actor paired a mint green slack—a blazer with striking black lapels—with a tonal shirt and black court shoes. It’s the little details that give the eccentric look an edge, however, Blanchett sported a huge pink bow on her left hip, and in the fall 2023 Eye-catching accessory: Black ties
Ties may remind you of Avril Lavigne from the “Sk8er Boi” era, but they are the main accessory trend this fashion month one. At Alexander McQueen, Valentino and Dior, they added a major styling element to the collections, with ties either neatly tucked under coats or hung loosely from trouser belts. Given that this is one of the most controversial trends to emerge this fall, it’s no surprise that Blanchett was one of the first celebs to try it out on the red carpet.
It also makes sense for Blanchett to be one of the co-chairs of this year’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards, given the increasingly eco-conscious approach to her dressing at premieres and events.
