The Cleveland Cavaliers will not play in the 2023-24 season would be much different.
President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman told Chris Fee of Cleveland.com Chris Fedor, who plans to keep Darius’ core quartet of Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen to lead the team last season Together after entering the playoffs:
“I intend to be so. I never make promises in case something miraculous happens, but all four know how important they are to this, and no dialogue has taken place. Other than asking Outside of the team doing their job, there haven’t been any substantive conversations happening that we envisage dismantling this core. This core won 51 games last year and does have more runway. I think we’ll go ahead become better.”
Those comments were notable because Fedor reported on June 22 that Cleveland had offers for Allen but didn’t think any of them were “attractive enough” to make a trade.
On paper, this makes sense.
After all, the Cavaliers went 51-31 last season and Earned home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Mitchell (26), Allen (25), Garland (23) and Mobley (22) are all young and either in their prime or near their prime.
They will also maintain some continuity in the 2023-24 season that they did not have last season, which is Mitchell Hall was with the team for the first time since his trade with the Utah Jazz.
Still, after a first-round loss to the Knicks, it’s fair to worry.
New York has been using the two lineups of Mobley and Allen, whether it is rebounding or creating matchups question. With five games to go, even Mitchell struggled to make the kind of impact he had during the regular season.
NBA insider Mark Stein previously reported that Allen was After the Knicks’ poor performance in the series, the Cavaliers are “open minded” to trade Allen. However, after the team made the playoffs without LeBron James for the first time since 1998 , management does not appear to be in a rush to make any changes.
Perhaps with the extra experience, the core four could go one step further and become title contenders, not just Only playoff teams.
