Cecilie Bahnsen took a fresh approach to her first post-COVID resort collection. Rather than seeing it as one of four separate shows a year, she sees the preseason as an introduction to a narrative that will be further developed and deepened in the main show. That way, she says, “I can really test and experiment and work on the collection early on and then build on that. It won’t be two different themes, but a continuation of one.”
The brand is on an upward trajectory; WWD reports that the company expects to hit 10 The million dollar mark, proving that fairy tale pretty dresses can come true in real life. Bahnsen’s partnership with ASICS has been a huge success and has allowed the designer to spread the love and create more products that customers can use. She continues the line of thought at the resort. “When I’m creating a show, it’s all about this perfect note, and this series is more about having a lot of different little stories, but still creating a whole universe,” she said. A lot of those little stories were told through the separates rather than the dresses. That means more ways to incorporate CB into your wardrobe and mix and match with what you own. Bahnsen and her team balanced the sweetness with dresses like this.
When the designer looks for inspiration, she often finds it in everyday life. In addition to Bahnsen’s famous fabrics, some pieces and dresses are also available in denim or light-colored jersey. She turned an embroidered lace piece inside and made good use of gathers, bows and ruffles. The mood of the series, the state of being a woman, is influenced by Barnson’s admiration for Sofia Coppola. When it comes to the appeal of this Danish brand, nothing is lost in translation.
