Celebrate Bastille Day this year at a new French bistro hotspot: Café Chelsea

It feels ambivalent to use the word “new” when describing the Chelsea Hotel. After all, this legendary building has been a New York City landmark since 1966 and has been listed on National Historic Sites since 1966 Places of Interest), thanks to its legacy as a creative hub for some of the city’s most prominent writers, musicians, artists and actors. In fact, when the hotel quietly reopened after a 1966 renovation, much of its original character remained – from the mosaic marble tiles to the Depression-era El Quijote bar.

But now, the Chelsea Hotel has really welcomed something completely new: their restaurant, Café Chelsea.

On Sunday, Café Chelsea, an all-day dining restaurant run by Charles Seich in Brooklyn, took over the former Capitol Fishing Tackle location and transformed it into a Parisian bistro: Executive Chef Derek Boccagno’s The menu includes Poulet Rôti, Tartare de Boeuf, Façon Niçoise and Raviole du Dauphiné, while the wine menu is filled with wines from France. Burgundy and Bordeaux. There will be two distinct dining areas: a casual dining area known as the “Little Cafe” and a formal “Big Cafe”. Artwork from the Chelsea Hotel’s current and former tenants hangs on the walls, while vintage chandeliers and Gallic décor add to the ambience. The Zinc Top bar inevitably becomes a social cornerstone, offering everything from martinis to perfect French cocktails .
