According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, the College Football Playoff Governing Council is targeting an agreed-upon 12-team playoffs as early as 2024, following an initial vote to expand the playoffs starting in 2026.
“The point is the schedule,” said USA Track and Field Commissioner Mike Aresco. “Our minds are very focused because we know if this is going to happen, we have to get it done. And I think the goal is to get it done, but who knows.”
