PHILADELPHIA — How can baseball not be romantic?
Before Sunday’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park, former Phillie Charlie Hayes threw a ceremonial first pitch to his son Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes for a perfect hit in the center of the plate.
Hayes Sr. played for Philadelphia in 1989-91, then in 1995 Years again. Hayes’ most memorable moment with the Phillies came in 1990, when he saved Terry Mulholland’s game by stealing Gary Carter’s Scream off the third base line in the game’s finale. Hitters, the game was on the big screen on Sunday.
Father in the crowd, young Hayes hits an opposing single Come and run the driving game for the first time.
