BEIJING (Reuters) – The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Wednesday that China’s 2022 industrial output is expected to rise 3.6% from a year earlier despite the COVID- Production and logistics disruption due to restrictions.
Manufacturing output is expected to grow 3.1 percent last year, accounting for 19 percent of gross domestic product, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology after a meeting on Wednesday.
The ministry has promised 2022 steady growth in the industrial economy after strict COVID lockdowns and restrictions disrupted production lines and supply chains last year.
Key sectors such as automobiles and consumer goods will stabilize, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said, as the government tries to stimulate consumption to drive economic recovery.
Improve the independent controllability of key industrial chains, and accelerate the development of major technical equipment and large passenger aircraft industries.
The country will also accelerate industrial upgrading by automating production lines and adopting greener manufacturing processes. It also aims to boost manufacturers’ global competitiveness in new technologies such as artificial intelligence, “Internet of Things” technology and alternative energy vehicles.
