Samsung had the edge on the original Gorilla Glass Victus, then the Galaxy S22 series was first to market with the improved Victus+, and now history is about to repeat itself. The upcoming Galaxy S22 models will be the first to feature the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Version 2 focuses on surviving falls, including drops on rough surfaces such as concrete, and if dropped on asphalt, up to 1m (hip height) or 2m (head height). However, this improved drop resistance doesn’t come at the expense of scratch resistance.
GG Victus 2 is environmentally friendly as it contains an average of 22 )% recycled content “pre-consumer”. This earned it the environmental claim verification mark.
The press release was vague on the exact details of the phone, not even mentioning “S680” explicitly. But given the timing (S680 series of Galaxy Unpacked is scheduled for Wednesday), no doubt.
Presumably, Victus 2 will be used to protect the front and back of the phone, just like Victus+ protects the sides of every S22 phone sides. Here’s what Stephanie Choi, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Samsung MX, had to say about the new glass:
Like-minded partners like Corning to improve performance while reducing our environmental impact. Our next-generation Galaxy flagship smartphones are the first devices to feature Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, offering both better durability and improved sustainability. “
A quote from David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager, Gorilla Glass:
For more than a decade, Gorilla Glass has answered the needs of smartphone Robust case materials set the standard. We are proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Samsung and to enable our latest innovations to power Samsung’s latest Galaxy smartphones.”
